MID-DEL ARCHERS
743 FOXHUNTERS ROAD
HARRINGTON, DE 19952
March 8, 2005
Fellow Archers,
The next meeting of the Mid-Del Archers is scheduled to start at 7:00 PM on March 20, 2005. The meeting place will be the Fox Hunters Clubhouse. The clubhouse will open @ 6:30. See you there.
The third 3-D shoot for 2005 was a great success. 50 archers completed the 30 target 3-D course which was marked with target markers newly painted by Daniel Tartt. Thanks Dan. Weather was warm and sunny. Several ladies and youths were among the shooters. Range setup and teardown was supported by members. Thanks guy’s for your assistance. The next shoot is April 3rd, so mark your calendar.
Again Lois controlled the kitchen and served up some great chili and chili dogs in addition to hot dogs and hamburgers. Drinks available to complement the food were water, soda, coffee, hot chocolate, and tea. Great job Lois; your support is really appreciated.
I apologize for not having drinks available on the range. No ice was available, an oversight that will be corrected for the next shoot.
Speaking of shoots, a shoot schedule is attached to this News Letter for your information. As you can see by looking at the schedule, we, in addition to our normal monthly 3-D shoot, are hosting the ASA Delaware State Qualifier and State Championship competitions, The Delaware Bay Tournament, and the Senior Olympic State Archery Championship and National Senior Olympic Qualification Competition in September. Finally, we have scheduled a youth shoot for June.
The Youth Shoot is intended for young archers. 14, 3-D targets will be setup on the dot range to minimize arrow losses due to misses. Range markers will be set a maximum of 10 yards, 15 yards, and 20 yards from the targets to accommodate archers of varying skill levels. Realizing that many young archers do not have archery equipment, a discussion was conducted with K&L Archery in Smyrna. As a result of that discussion K & L has resulted in an agreed to support this shoot with several youth bows and arrows. So if you or your neighbors have a young archer, mark your calendar for June 12, 2005. The shoot will begin at 12:00 PM and registration will close at 4:00 PM. Eats and refreshments will be available. Membership help is also needed for this event. If interested in providing support, contact Dave Slack @ 284-2322 leave your name and number or e-mail address and I will get back with you.
All archers over 50 years young are eligible to compete in the Senior Olympic Archery Shoot. However, registration for this event must be completed in the May/June timeframe. I will advise when registration materials are available and where as that information becomes available. For information, please give me, Dave Slack, a call at 284-2322. If I am not available leave your name and number or e-mail address and I will get back with you.
Happenings since the last newsletter:
* The walk bridge over the ditch along side the practice range has been repaired thanks to Daniel Tartt.
* Loose backstops have been secured, where possible on the Dot Range Thanks to Roy Sturgill.
* The refrigerator purchased in November did not function properly in the clubhouse environment (it is to cold). The refrigerator has been returned for a full credit. A refrigerator has been obtained for use.
There is still much to do and your assistance is needed. If you have some time to spend at your archery club, please check the bulletin board at the practice range. Feel free to accomplish any task posted. Remember if you have to purchase materials to complete a task keep your receipts so reimbursement can be made. If your anticipated expenditures will exceed $25.00, call me at 284-2322 before making the purchase.
Respectfully Yours
David Slack
