Dear Members,

Many things have been happening around the clubhouse since the beginning of winter. First, we were notified that chicken houses are going to be built on a portion of land where Mid-Del Archers currently has a large portion of their 3-D range located. This news in conjunction with the recent location of all target shoot lanes in the open due to the logging operations resulted in a hunt for adjacent land where we could obtain permission to set-up 3-D shooting lanes.

Fortunately Mr. Charles Jones and Mr. Charles Pitts have given Mid-Del Archers permission to use portions of their lands for the purpose of 3-D archery. With that permission 26 new shooting lanes have been established by clearing brush and leaves from the proposed lanes. Trees and other markers have been left in the lanes. Separation between individual shooting lanes is approximately 30 yards. The depth of each lane varies between 25 yards and 50 yards. Some lanes offer minor distractions which will make for interesting shooting. Mid-Del Archers has a great deal of flexibility in setting targets in a wooded setting again.

We are planning on using the new shooting lanes for the April 3-D shoot. Come out and join us for the opener.

A target survey was conducted in December and we determined that several targets are becoming shot-up and others need replacement. Early in March an order was placed with Delta Sports Products for 10 new targets and 8 replacement mid sections. We expect delivery of the targets and mid sections by mid April. Hopefully by the May 3-D shoot we will have some replaced targets displayed for sale

All of the targets and mid sections incorporate the universal scoring system being implemented by ASA. Where possible these targets will be used during our ASA Shoots.

Mid-Del Archers Constitution and By Laws were initially established in 1997. Since then numerous changes have occurred such as national Archery Organization Affiliation, NFAA to ASA, meeting changes, membership obligations, etc. During the winter both the Constitution and the By-Laws for Mid-Del Archers were updated. A copy of each document is being posted on the Website www.mid-delarchers.com for your review and comment. Both documents will be discussed at the April membership meeting. Barring any significant changes resulting from comments, approval of the documents will be voted upon during the meeting. Please take the time to review each document and come to the April meeting with your comments or just come to the meeting to vote on the documents.

Taylor & Messick did a fine job resolving our Gator starting difficulty over the Christmas holidays. The Gator hasn’t run as good as it is since I became a member. However, the Gator bed is becoming much rusted and is in need of some patching. We need the services of a member who can weld reasonably well to tack weld a new floor into the Gator. If you are willing contact David Slack @ 284-2322 or 359-4671.

The Dot range has not been toughed since the logging and is in need of attention. We are planning to begin work on the Dot range in April. Members owning chain saws rakes, post hole diggers etc are needed to participate in this activity. Actually, members who cut wood to clear shooting lanes may take the wood with them. Come out anytime and support your club and help yourself, particularly if you are a wood burner.

The “Shoot for the Loot” competition is going well. Come out and get involved. April is the last month to join the competition to get the required 9 shoots in this year.

See you around the clubhouse

Dave Slack
